A Wade in the Water publication by Ann Morris

NOTES FROM ANNIE'S ATTIC... Stone Hill is on the information superhighway. We now have our very own home page on the World WIde Web, maintained by Wayne Coffey and John Robinson. Not only will net surfers be able to read about the Stone Hill Science Fiction Association's activities and interests, but also go to some very interesting home pages linked to us. The address for the Stone Hill home page is:
www.stonehill.org
Wayne and John are looking for reporters for the home page and would welcome any SF news you want to send them as well as any short reviews of SF, fantasy and horror works you've encountered lately. Just send your tidbits to Wayne at his E-mail addresss: smash@stonehill.org.
Now that you've got the big news, it's time for some little but not without significance news from the Lovers Lane house. Some of you may know that we were cursed, uh, blessed with the presence of a velvet Elvis. As it was a gift to Kendall from a friend, we never felt in good conscience that we could get rid of it, but fate recently stepped in and presented a marvelous opportunity.
One Saturday night about a month ago, Kendall, Terri, and I popped into a new restaurant called Lulu Belle's Beauty Supply and Chain Saw Repair. No, I am not kidding. That is its name, really. It has a most interesting and eclectic decor, including a dryer in the main room. The cuisine is dubbed "contemporary southern" and it's very tasty. We had gone there to hear our friend and fellow Stone Hill member Lawren Carrier play the mandolin, which she does there every Saturday night from 7:30 till 9.
As our order for some definitlely "you'd better not be on a diet desserts" was being taken, our server mentioned that a velvet Elvis tribute room was planned but the availability of velvet Elvises was not what had been hoped for. Of course, I piped up and told her that Kendall owned a velvet Elvis. She said that the owner would be interested to know that and went to place our order with the kitchen staff. Kendall suggested that he could lend his velvet Elvis to the restaurant but that he'd like to have a plaque made to go with it that said, "on loan from the collection of Dr. Kendall F. Morris". Such a tacky idea naturally caused us a good bit of merriment.
A bit later while we were indulging ourselves with our naughty sweets, David Sabato, the owner of Lulu Belle's came to us and greeted Kendall with the words, "I hear you are the proprietor of a velvet Elvis". What happened after was that Kendall agreed to place his prized piece of "art" with Lulu Belle's and David, the owner and head chef allowed that he would have a plaque made himself for the Elvis. In return for the loan of the Elvis, we would get a free meal. Free food is rarely a bad deal, so the bargain was struck, much to my delight because it would get the Velvet Elvis out of my bedroom! Several days later, Kendall delivered the velvet Elvis and threw in the loan of his "Hearbreak Hotel" Elvis plate and the special "album" of first day cover Elvis stamps he owns.
On a subsequent Sunday night, Kendall, Debbie and I visited Luly Belle's for supper. Kendall and I not only got our dinner free, but Debbie did also. In fact, Debbie and Kendall both ended up taking some of theirs home and having it for lunch the next day. I could have done the same but I was a bit piggy that night and ate mine all up, as well as having a lovely cherry cobbler for dessert.
Those of you who wish to sample some "contemporary southern" food and to view the Elvis Exhibition should drop by Lulu Belle's sometime for a bite. The address is 811 S. Howard Ave, Tampa. The phone is 813-254-5541.
If this sounds a bit of a commercial forgive me, but I feel justified. Stone Hill people are always on the lookout for places with good food and unusual atmosphere and this place fits both categories, so you need to know about it.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.. A couple of our Stone Hill guys, Richard Byers and Mark Jones (both members of the Lovers Lane household) have lately taken up fencing. THey are not exactly ready to call themselves masters of the art, but they are having a good time. They are taking lessons at Tampa's Fencing Academy. Gerry Duran, who owns and is the fencing master of the Academy works at MOSI as I do, so I see him often. He has been asking me if Mark and Richard have challenged each other to a duel yet. Well, no, they have not and when they do, they know that they are not allowed to have it in our living room. Mark says they would prefer the hall anyway. I keep saying that they have to play outside.
We have arranged with Gerry to have a fencing demonstraton at NECRONOMICON '96. Those of you who fancy yourselves latter day Errol Flynns can come find out how it's really done at Necronomicon '96-blatant commercial and no apology for it!
Oh, and just to set the record straight, when Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone had it out in thos good ol' movies, Rathbone had to hold back on his skills. He was actually the one who was a master of the art.
If you are a student at a university or college and are interested in fencing, check with your school's atheletic department. Many colleges and universities have fencing classes and fencing teams. If you are interested in taking up the sport of fencing, are not a student, and live in the Tampa Bay area, you can give Gerry a call at the Academy at 813-885-FOIL to arrange for lessons. No apology for that commercial either.

Stone Hill Kids Brag Bag.. This is a new feature that will focus on the accomplishments of the youngest Stone Hill members. It's assumed that SF fans are concerned with the future and how we can assure that it's a good future. Well, I know of no better hope for a fine future than the children of today. They deserve our love, care and respect and we should let them know how important they are. If you have news of a special event or achievement in a Stone Hill kid's life, let me know and I'll make suer that the word gets out to SHLT readers.
Kevin and Lydia Lindow are due big CONGRATULATIONS this month.
Kevin was chosen student of the month at his school. This means that Kevin is not only showing academic prowess, but is also showing that he is a good citizen, which is equally important. Good job Kevin!
Lydia participated in a Read-a-Thon at her school and collected the most sponsorship money of any child in the program. For her effort, she won four passes to Busch Gardens. A pat on the back goes to Lydia for her effort and love of reading and a pats on the the back go to the Stone Hill members who helped her win the prize by pledging money for her effort.

A representative from Florida Blood Services will have a short presentation on blood donation at the meeting, so you can get answers to any questions you might have on the subject.

COOK'S CORNER Here's a really easy recipe that my family always gobbles up quickly.

FAMILY FAVORITE STEW
1-1/2 to 2lbs boneless stew beef (can be used frozen or thawed)
1 lb turkey dinner sausage or turkey kielbasa, cut in 1/2" slices
2 c. peeled baby carrots
8 oz whole fresh mushrooms (use more if you particularly like them, as I do)
4 medium potatoes, cut in 1" pieces, or 2 c. fresh or frozen corn
2 envelopes dry onion soup mix
Water

In a crockpot or slow cooker, place all ingredients with enough water to rise
just an inch or two below the top of the food. Cook on high for 2 hours and then
reduce heat to low setting. If your cooker has an autoshift setting, use it
instead. If you start with the meat forzen, cook for 8-10 hours. (I like this
for days when I will be at work for 8 hours). If the meat is thawed, cook for
5-6 hours. Stir the contents of the pot at the end of the cooking time to mix
 the foods.
This will serve 6 to 8 as a main dish.

LOTS OF DALEKS by Jeffrey Kellog and Elizabeth Hensley

Here's a Dalek, there's a Dalek, LOTS OF DALEKS
Wouldn't you hate to be the Doctor now!
We Watch Doctor Who and we're proud
We're part of a pixilated crowd
Other heroes fight and balst
But the Doctor uses violence last
Wouldn't the world be nicer if we'd all?

I'M A JEDI by Adrain Barton, Mike Geraghty and Ann Morris

I tote a light saber, don't ya know?
It can cut ya down the middle, head to toe.
Now I take my saber everwhere I go.
I'm a Jedi, He's a jedi, She's a Jedi. We're a Jedi.
Wouldn't you like to be a Jedi too?

I'm a master of the force, don't ya see?
Though occasionally I blow it, I'll agree.
Now I see THE OTHER to fix it up for me.
I'm a Jedi, He's a Jedi, She's a Jedi, We're a Jedi.
Wouldn't you like to be a Jedi too?

I'm a full fledged Jedi and I'm proud.
I'm part of that well beloved crowd.
Ya know that we are fearless. We parise the Force out loud.
I'm a Jedi, He's a Jedi, She's a Jedi, We're a Jedi.
Wouldn't you like to be a Jedi too?

Be a hellion. Join the rebellion.
Be a hellion. Join the rebellion.

Thats it for this month pals. Be back with you again next month. Till then, TAKE CARE AND HAVE FUN and....
